Independent Living Program

"Meeting the needs of youth, wherever they are"

Independent Living Program

The " A Journey Home: Independent Living Service"  serves males and females, ages 18 to 21 years old, who are committed to foster care and are transitioning from more restrictive placements, such as residential group care or family foster care, to less restrictive community settings.

Youth assessed as having the level of self-sufficiency needed to live successfully on their own are placed in one-bedroom apartments in the community with minimal supervision. Case management and clinical staff work with each youth to develop a comprehensive service plan and ensures that he/she has access to the appropriate medical, mental health, educational, counseling, and other support services to help them succeed—as well as 24-hour crisis intervention and support.

Youth participate in group activities (both recreational and educational), life skills training and workshops held on various topics. The Program provides financial assistance with rent, transportation, and other living expenses. Youth may remain in the program until his/her 21st birthday.
