Young Parent Program

King Edwards, Inc. (KEI) the “A Journey Home Program” is a supervised community-based Independent Living service provided to young mothers (and fathers) with one child or a pregnant youth in her third trimester.  Youth are referred by the local foster care placements of each local Department of Social Services.  Youth must be between the ages of 18-21, with only one child 0 to 4 years old at the time of placement.

Appropriate youth are placed by KEI in the community in a two-bedroom apartment and provided 24hour/7 days a week staff support and oversight where they can begin to experience being self-reliant. Independent Living Workshops, Youth Support Groups, and Individualized Support Services are provided by licensed professionals. Intensive care management and community supports are further provided by para-professionals who guide youth on their journey. Bi-monthly stipends, transportation assistance, job readiness, vocation, and educational supports are additional services provided by the program.

All KEI youth must be employed and willing to commit to their goals to become self-sufficient. KEI is a voluntary program that subscribes to a youth and family-based model of care. The Program provides financial assistance with rent, transportation, and other living expenses. Youth may remain in the program until his/her 21st birthday.
